📓Decentralized Database

How We Secure Your Data: The hello.app Decentralized Database

Welcome to the backbone of hello.app's commitment to data security and transparency. Our unique approach to handling data ensures that your information is not just safe but also accessible in a transparent manner. Below, we'll walk you through our daily backup process, decentralized storage solutions, and how you can access and verify any transaction or data snapshot yourself.

Daily Encrypted Backups to Decentralized Storage

At hello.app, we understand the importance of data integrity and availability. That's why we've implemented a robust backup process that operates round the clock to safeguard your data.

The Backup Process

Every 24 hours, our system automatically initiates a backup process that captures the entire database. This process is two-fold to maximize security and redundancy:

  1. Encryption: First and foremost, the database is encrypted. This step ensures that all data is secured and protected before it leaves our servers, making it indecipherable to anyone without the decryption key.

  2. Decentralized Backup: Once encrypted, the database snapshot is uploaded to the InterPlanetary File System (IPFS), a peer-to-peer protocol for storing and sharing data in a distributed file system. Upon successful upload to IPFS, a unique hash of the data is generated. This hash serves as a direct pointer to the data snapshot on IPFS, ensuring that the data can always be located and accessed via its hash.

Following the IPFS upload, we take an additional step to ensure permanence by uploading the IPFS hash to , a permanent storage solution. This means that even if IPFS data were to become inaccessible for any reason, the encrypted database snapshot remains safely stored on Arweave, accessible through the transaction ID.

Transparency and Access

Transparency is a core value at hello.app. To honor this, we've made the entire backup process transparent and accessible:

  • Snapshot Access: You can view all transactions, relevant data, and the encrypted database snapshots on our webpage: https://hello.app/snapshots.

  • Download and Verification: Interested parties can copy transaction details, download the data directly from the Arweave transaction, fetch the binary at IPFS, and view the transaction on a blockchain explorer. This level of access ensures that you can verify the integrity and authenticity of the data independently.

Ensuring Data Integrity and Security

Our decentralized database and backup approach are designed to provide maximum security, integrity, and transparency. By leveraging blockchain technology and decentralized storage solutions like IPFS and Arweave, we ensure that your data is not only secure but also perpetually accessible.

Why Decentralized?

Decentralization offers numerous benefits over traditional, centralized storage solutions, including:

  • Redundancy: Data is stored across multiple nodes, ensuring it remains accessible even if part of the network goes down.

  • Security: The decentralized nature makes it significantly harder for malicious actors to compromise data integrity.

  • Transparency: Every transaction and data snapshot is verifiable by anyone, promoting trust and accountability.
